Finalists Named in Student Conducting Competition

in

More than 150 student conductors applied for the 2009 ACDA National Student Conducting competition.  Following the first round of competition by video, eight students in the undergraduate and eight students in the graduate level move on to the semi-final round of live competition March 4 and March 5 respectively in Oklahoma City. Four students in each level will continue to the final round of competition on March 6, 2009.  The winners will be announced during the convention awards ceremony, Saturday, March 7 at 6:00 pm.

An international choral event to extol the values of solidarity, peace and understanding, the International Day of Choral Singing is an initiative of the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM) held on the second Sunday in December.  As a member organization, ACDA encourages all members, choral directors, and choirs to join this voices as one on this day of global
singing.

Benjamin P. May Wins ACDA’s 2008 Raymond W. Brock Student Composition Contest

The American Choral Directors Association has named Westminster Choir College student Benjamin P. May as the 2008 Raymond W. Brock Student Composition Contest Winner for his composition “Absalon, Fili Mi”. The winning submission is scored for SATB chorus, boy soprano, and piano, and was selected by a panel of distinguished American composers. 


Educational Credit Available at National Convention

The Robert Shaw Choral Award

The Robert Shaw Choral Award will be given to a choral leader who has made unusual contributions to the art of choral music. The recipient shall be chosen by the ACDA Past President’s Council.  The Robert Shaw Choral Award will be presented during each National Convention.
