2009 ACDA National Convention

March 4-7, 2009 - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Transforming the Future of Choral Music

The American Choral Directors Association has been a strong musical force in the world of choral music since its beginning in 1959.  Since then, ACDA has grown to include more than 20,000 choral directors worldwide.  Now in 2009, we come together at our national convention to celebrate the accomplishments of the last 50 years and work together to inspire the future of choral music in the United States.

I could tell you about the twenty-seven auditioned choirs, four international choirs, the demonstration choirs, national honor choirs, thirty-six interest sessions, thirteen reading sessions and the two identical convention tracks.  I could describe the Peace Event at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum, the Raymond Brock Composition Cenotaph by Dominick Argento, or recite the fact that the recently renovated Civic Center Music Hall is an easy walk from the Cox Convention Center.  But nothing I can say will be as strong as the experience of attending an ACDA convention and being part of an incredible organization during its transformation into a 21st century choral association.  There is no experience in the world like attending a choral concert with 4,000 of your colleagues, shaking hands with world renowned conductors on the exhibit hall floor, or returning home with new inspiration and challenging ideas to present to your own choir.

I look forward to personally welcoming you to ACDA’s home town.  Please join us in Oklahoma City for this historic week of inspiring performances and practical learning.
